Pre-procedure responsibilities
- Patient assessment: Perform a baseline assessment, including vital signs, and check for allergies to contrast dye.
- Preparation: Prepare the patient, ensure consent is obtained, and set up the Cath lab room with necessary equipment and medications.
- Patient education: Educate the patient and family about the procedure, potential risks, and post-procedure care.
Intra-procedure responsibilities
- Assistance: Assist cardiologists during procedures, such as angiograms and angioplasties.
- Monitoring: Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs, ECG, and overall condition during the procedure.
- Technical support: Operate imaging equipment like fluoroscopy and ECG monitors.
- Maintaining a sterile field: Ensure and maintain a sterile environment throughout the procedure.
- Instrument handling: Assist with instruments, supplies, and the administration of contrast media.
Post-procedure responsibilities
- Immediate care: Provide immediate post-procedure care, including monitoring vital signs, managing access sites, and assessing the patient's recovery.
- Documentation: Accurately document all aspects of the procedure and patient's condition in the medical record.
- Emergency management: Be prepared to handle emergencies, such as a cardiac arrest, efficiently and according to protocol.
General responsibilities
- Equipment maintenance: Ensure all equipment is clean, sterile, and calibrated regularly.
- Infection control: Adhere strictly to infection control and safety protocols.
- Team collaboration: Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and evaluate care plans.
- Inventory management: Keep track of supplies and ensure the availability of necessary items.
