Staff nurse - Operation Theater (Night duty)

The Scrub Staff Nurse plays in Dr. Aravind's IVF plays a key role in supporting assisted reproductive procedures in the IVF Centre by ensuring sterile conditions, assisting the surgical team during egg retrievals, embryo transfers, and other minor procedures. The role requires a high level of precision, adherence to sterile protocols, and close coordination with clinicians, embryologists, and nurses.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare the operating theatre with the required sterile instruments and supplies.
• Verify patient identity and consent forms before procedures.
• Assist in positioning the patient and preparing the operative site.
• Ensure all equipment is functional and ready for the procedure (e.g., suction, OT lights, ultrasound).
• Scrub in for IVF-related procedures such as:
• Oocyte retrieval (egg collection)
• Embryo transfer, Hysteroscopy or diagnostic procedures
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon or procedurals using sterile technique.
• Maintain the sterile field and monitor for any breaches in sterility.
• Manage instrument counts before, during, and after procedures.
• Assist in cleaning and re-sterilizing surgical instruments.
• Ensure proper disposal of bio-medical waste as per infection control protocols.
• Prepare documentation and recordkeeping for procedures.
• Assist in transferring patients to recovery and provide post-op support as needed.
• Assist Inpatients.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Diploma or Degree in Nursing or Operation Theatre Technology.
• 1–2 years of experience in OT, IP room, preferably in genecology or IVF centers.
• Sound knowledge of aseptic techniques and surgical protocols.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong understanding of sterile techniques and OT protocol.
• Ability to remain focused and calm during delicate IVF procedures.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
• Flexibility to work in shifts and during emergency procedures.
