Full Position Salary Range: $206,820.69/year - $277,949.71/year

Schedule: Full-Time; 1 FTE; Exempt; Benefits-Eligible

Abortion Care: At PPRM, we all work in abortion care. This role supports abortion care through direct clinical triage, patient education, and follow-up, ensuring timely and empathetic support to those navigating abortion services.

Snapshot: The Staff Physician provides safe, competent, and inclusive medical care to patients. At the Medical Director’s request, they will assist with other administrative functions. These functions include, but are not limited to, the on-boarding, training, supervision, and clinical evaluation of licensed medical staff (including contract physicians) to ensure the delivery of excellent patient care. They will participate in the training and mentorship of medical residents, Advanced Practice Nursing students and fellows, sub-specialty fellows and other medical learners. They will also assist with processes to ensure adherence to the PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines and PPRM clinical protocols throughout the agency.

This position requires travel to work at health centers in PPRM’s service area and to attend conferences and regionally and nationally as needed.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Board Certified or has achieved Active Candidate status for Board Certification, preferred Obstetrician/Gynecologist, with full range of reproductive health care, including gynecologic services, contraception services, colposcopy, and first and second trimester abortions. If Active Candidate, must take and pass the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology Certifying Examination (achieving Board Certification) within 2 years of hire.
    • Preferred surgical proficiency to 24+ weeks gestation in the outpatient setting
    • Preferred to have practiced outpatient gynecology within the past two years and proficiency in common gynecologic outpatient procedures (ie colposcopy, LEEP, hysteroscopy, moderate sedation in the outpatient setting, etc)
  • Currently licensed to practice medicine in Colorado and eligible for licensure in New Mexico and Wyoming.
  • Must have current DEA registration in Colorado and eligible for registration in New Mexico and Wyoming.
  • Ability to function comfortably in protocol-based practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team with all levels of PPRM staff.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel as required.
  • Must be willing to be on call for patient emergencies.
  • Strong computer skills in electronic medical records, telemedicine video platforms, MS Office, and the ability to quickly learn new technology.

Primary Areas of Responsibility/Essential Functions:

You will be instrumental in implementing PPRM’s expanding medical services, ensuring sound clinical practices, and providing excellent, efficient care within the medical policies and clinical standards established by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s (PPFA) National Medical Committee, PPRM’s Clinical Leadership Team, and other relevant regulatory agencies. PPRM Service Standards and Values and a patient-centered approach to health care are integrated in your work and interactions. You serve as a support and mentor, stepping in when necessary to ensure clinical care follows protocols and that patients receive the best possible care.

  • Provides direct medical care in both family planning, gynecologic, and abortion services in accordance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Medical Standards and Guidelines and PPRM clinical protocols and operating procedures.
  • Provides first and second trimester abortion procedures, preferably to 24+ weeks gestation.
  • Provides medication abortion in-clinic and via telemedicine models.
  • Leads their patient care team including medical assistants and registered nurses in the management of medically complicated patients and challenging biopsychosocial situations, including procedural complications.
  • Serves as a training and/or supervising physician for Advanced Practice Clinicians in any PPRM state where the staff physician is also licensed.
  • Provides teaching and mentorship to outside learners, including but not limited to medical students, advanced practice nursing students, medical residents and sub-specialty fellows
  • Works in electronic health records, including timely and accurate completion of documentation and billing, and provides support to other medical staff and contract physicians in same
  • Supports and participates in training programs for Medical, Nursing, and unlicensed health center staff.
  • Provides medical consultation to Medical and Nursing Staff regarding the clinical management of specific patients.
  • Participates in Research initiatives/projects.

Administrative: You are an active contributor on the Staff Physician team; you set the tone for others in as a member of an internal team focused on providing consistently outstanding care while modeling PPRM’s values

  • Assists and collaborates with the Medical Director in assuring that physician services are provided in accordance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America Medical Standards and Guidelines and PPRM clinical protocols and operating procedures.
  • Participates in the hiring, supervision, professional growth, and evaluation of Medical Staff and Contract physicians.
  • Works collaboratively throughout the organization to ensure the adoption and implementation of standards and policies for all functional aspects of clinical services that result in patient experience improvements.
  • Provides medical guidance to other staff members, including nurses and APCs.
  • Supports the autonomous delivery of services by advanced practice clinicians.
  • Reviews and contributes to patient incident reports.
  • Assists in management of PPRM’s pharmacy program, which may include the ordering of controlled substances and other pharmaceuticals.

State-Specific Assistant Medical Directors Designation:

If designated as a State-Specific Medical Director, you must have all applicable licenses and DEA in in the designated state. You act as overseeing physician for pharmacy related functions and as the Director of Laboratory Services per state regulation. You assume legal responsibility for ordering and distribution of drugs and devices in compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws.

COVID-19 Protocol: Vaccination against COVID-19 will no longer be a condition of employment. However, all Health Center/Patient or Community Facing Employees, must have the COVID vaccine or wear a mask at all times beginning November 1st. Proof must be uploaded upon hire. Flu Protocol: All employees working directly with patients, the community or working in a health center will be required to have the flu shot or wear a mask during patient/community contact or while in the health center from November 1 – April 30 each year (Flu Season).
