QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Certification of graduation from a school of nursing approved by the Department of Professional Regulation

License: license as a registered nurse by examination, or a license by endorsement are required in accordance to the State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act

A valid driver’s license and automobile insurance

Madison County, IL residency requirements must be met within 6 months of hire
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Performs duties in accordance with department protocols, State and Federal rules and guidelines for each health service program the Health Department supports
-
Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients, families, or communities; identifies problems, implements plans, and evaluates the effectiveness of the plans in such programs as Communicable Disease, Tuberculosis, Immunizations, Lead, etc.

Collects and interprets data for epidemiological purposes
-
Maintains clinical records
-
Demonstrates and performs nursing procedures within the scope of practice of a professional registered nurse
-
Interviews patients to obtain a thorough personal and family history
-
Recognizes and interprets symptoms of patients' conditions, reports to appropriate person and assists with remedial measures for adverse developments

Provides counseling with regard to the physical and emotional needs of the patients and their families
-
Confers with parents, physicians, dentists, schools, and other agencies to gather important information related to a holistic and preventative health approach for communities as a whole
-
Confers with other health and social service providers, with written consent of the patient, to provide a more holistic approach to patient care
-
Participates in grant program reviews
-
Teaches patients, family and others about nursing care, treatments, and health practices
-
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
