Position Summary

The Neuroscience Center of Excellence at the LSU Health Sciences Center – New Orleans is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented PhD-level Chemist to join our research team as a Staff Scientist or Staff Scientist Senior , depending on experience. This role is focused on conducting cutting-edge research in lipidomics and LC-MS/MS , contributing to our broader efforts in lipid biology and metabolomics.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical chemistry , particularly in lipid extraction and mass spectrometry , or be eager to learn and grow in this specialized field. This position offers the opportunity to play a critical role in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment that values innovation, scientific rigor, and professional development.

Success in this role includes:

• Independently performing high-quality lipidomic analyses using LC-MS/MS.
• Contributing to experimental design and generating reproducible data sets.

• Supporting the maintenance of analytical equipment and adherence to safety and documentation standards.
• Advancing the center’s research goals through continuous learning and scientific contribution.

This role is integral to the research pipeline within the Neuroscience Center of Excellence, providing key analytical expertise that supports both foundational and translational neuroscience research.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform lipid extraction and LC-MS/MS analysis on biological samples.
• Conduct both qualitative and quantitative analysis of lipids and metabolites.
• Analyze and interpret complex datasets using appropriate analytical software and statistical tools.
• Collaborate in the design and execution of experiments related to lipid biology.
• Maintain and calibrate analytical instrumentation, ensuring peak performance.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and research documentation.
• Follow all laboratory safety protocols and maintain meticulous experimental records.

Qualifications

Education:

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.

Experience:

• Staff Scientist: 0–3 years of postdoctoral or relevant industry/academic experience.
• Staff Scientist Senior: Minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong foundation in analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry.
• Experience with or willingness to be trained in lipid extraction and LC-MS/MS.
• Familiarity with data analysis techniques and lipidomics software tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
