Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and driven Staff Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in advancing the architecture, integration, and technical excellence of our embedded airborne tactical radio systems. Serving as the principal deputy to the Chief Engineer, this individual will contribute to the definition and evolution of radio subsystem architectures, ensuring adherence to aerospace standards and mission-critical performance requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor cross-functional design teams, and help uphold best engineering practices across programs. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong systems thinking and leadership potential — positioning them as a future successor to the Chief Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for software defined digital radio architectures, audio signal processing, and embedded real-time control systems.
  • Approve and govern system and software architectures, design patterns, and technology selections across all product lines.
  • Together with engineering leadership, spearhead the company’s technical roadmap for tactical SDRs, ensuring scalability and future readiness.

Design Governance & Best Practices

  • Define and enforce engineering standards, design guidelines, and development best practices for safety-critical embedded systems.
  • Lead critical design reviews, technical audits, and root cause analyses for complex issues.
  • Champion model-based system design, modular architecture, and rigorous verification and validation practices, with INCOSE standards as the backbone.
Mentorship & Team Development
  • Support the Engineering Manager and Chief Engineer as a teacher, coach, and mentor to multi-disciplinary engineering teams (hardware, firmware, software, systems, test).
  • Build and nurture a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Develop training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives to elevate team expertise in avionics radio systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to engineering leadership, manufacturing, quality assurance, and certification entities within the business unit.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and certification authorities as the recognized technical authority for radio systems.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts by defining system concepts, risks, and development estimates.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in aerospace avionics product development, with strong emphasis on embedded systems and real-time radio and audio signal processing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
