Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in product design or UX.
  • Experience with interactive and visual design.
  • Experience in layout and composition.
  • Experience with brand expression and style.
  • Include a portfolio, website, or any other relevant link to your work in your resume (providing a viewable link or access instructions).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with design systems, including abstract thinking about second order effects of choices at the system level
  • Experience with visual design for software products.
  • Experience leading large-scale creative collaboration sprints and workshops.
  • Excellent creative coding, interaction design, illustration, motion design, and iconography skills.

The Core team builds the technical foundation behind Google’s flagship products. These are the essential building blocks for excellent, safe, and coherent experiences for our users and drive the pace of innovation for every developer. We look across Google’s products to build central solutions, break down technical barriers and strengthen existing systems. As the Core team, we have a mandate and a unique opportunity to impact important technical decisions across the company.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000-$265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Explore new visual language and over-arching story for the Material Design system and design specific components and subsystems.
  • Define systems for brand expression in product, and establish and document visual systems for color, typography, shape, layout etc.
  • Draw example screens showing elements of the design system in action.
  • Collaborate with design teams across Google to help them implement Material Design in their products.
  • Collaborate effectively with interaction and motion designers, engineering, research, product, and writing within Google Design Platform to ship a functioning system.
