Stamping Press Maintenance Journeyperson

A Day in the Life

You start your shift by walking the production floor, checking the health of stamping presses and related tooling. A line reports an intermittent fault—meter in hand, you trace it through prints, isolate the issue, and get the press back online. Between calls, you log downtime codes and work orders in Plex, coach a Level I mechanic through a bearing lubrication check, and schedule a preventative task you know will save hours next week. Before the day ends, you contribute ideas to improve a lubrication routine and help refine a repair procedure for the team.

Impact You’ll Make

  • Inspect, install, maintain, and repair production machinery and tooling, adhering to defined procedures.
  • Document downtime codes and manage work orders using the Plex system.
  • Diagnose issues mechanically and electrically (meter-based troubleshooting), guided by mechanical and electrical prints.
  • Apply advanced understanding of press operation, functionality, and lubrication systems.
  • Assess bearing/motor condition and lubrication needs; recognize over/under-lubrication indicators.
  • Repair, replace, and troubleshoot press mechanical components, partnering with a Level III mechanic as needed.
  • Perform advanced mechanical troubleshooting and basic electrical fault-finding.
  • Isolate faults, repair manufacturing equipment, and return assets to service safely.
  • Operate shop and material-handling equipment safely: hand tools, surface grinders, wheel pullers, torches, pipe threaders, hydraulic jacks, welders, scissor and boom lifts, lathes, forklifts, milling machines, drill presses; apply basic rigging.
  • Provide coaching and direction to Level I Press Maintenance Mechanics.
  • Help develop and refine maintenance/repair procedures and PM schedules; champion continuous improvement for throughput and quality.
