EthosEnergy is currently seeking a State Income Tax Senior Analyst for our Houston, TX facility. The State Income Tax Professional is responsible for managing state and local income tax compliance, reporting, and audit defense. This role ensures the organization meets all state and local income tax obligations accurately and timely. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of state income/apportionment rules, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • State Income Tax Compliance
  • Prepare state and local income/franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated tax calculations.
  • Manage apportionment computations, state modifications, and NOLs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with varying state filing requirements and deadlines. Audit Support
  • Respond to state and local income/franchise tax audit inquiries, notices, and information requests. Research & Planning
  • Conduct research on complex state tax issues, including nexus, apportionment changes, legislative updates, and emerging tax risks.


Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of state income/franchise tax concepts (nexus, apportionment, unitary rules, etc.).
  • Exposure to federal income tax compliance is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and common tax compliance systems. Corptax experience is a plus.
  • Ability to research and interpret complex state tax statutes and regulations. Soft Skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Collaborative mindset with readiness to interact across the organization.


Experience

  • Senior Analyst: 4–8 years of SALT income/franchise tax experience in a corporation or public accounting firm.


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA, or MST preferred (but not required depending on level).
