Stationery Buyer's Assistant and Sales Associate

Poor Richard’s, a well-established, locally-owned business, is seeking a motivated, organized retail professional with a love for graphic design and all things paper to join our Retail Team. This is a buyer career-track position, so we are looking for someone who wants long-term employment in a retail setting on a positive and mutually supportive team.

The Assistant to Stationery Buyer / Sales Associate is a support position, that includes performing administrative, stocking, and merchandising duties, primarily for the Stationery Buyer, as well as front counter sales and customer service. It offers a wide range of training and experience in various aspects of a locally-owned retail business.

Duties include:

  • Front counter sales on a point-of-sale cash register while providing warm, welcoming customer service
  • Providing accurate and efficient administrative assistance, primarily for the Stationery Buyer, including but not limited to: receiving incoming shipments of merchandise, creating and tracking purchase orders and more
  • Physical inventory management and stocking for a large instore stock of greeting cards, art supplies, journals, and other stationery product
  • Periodic display resets and daily merchandising and stocking of department displays.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Retail experience, preferably in a small business setting
  • Experience providing warm, welcoming customer service
  • Solid administrative experience and strong computer and organizational skills—organized, accurate and detailed-oriented
  • Strong visual/spatial skills with Visual Merchandising and/or design or visual art experience
  • Must be a positive team member who is an open communicator and able to work effectively within a partnership and team
  • Is a motivated self-starter who remains calm, focused and productive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Is a natural at providing warm, welcoming customer service
  • Is willing and able to work evening and weekend shifts (12-8 PM) with two days off during the week
  • Is able to lift and carry 40 pounds up and down stairs, use basic tools and climb ladders to merchandise product or access product for a customer
  • Has excellent professional references
  • Having a knowledge of books and literature is a plus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
