Statistical R&D Analyst Senior

As a senior research and development (R&D) analyst on the Special Lines R&D team, you'll advance segmentation by supporting product model strategy. Overseeing a product line that includes boats, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles, you'll contribute to the ideation, analysis, and implementation in marketplaces where Progressive is the market leader with a strong history of profitable growth. In this role, you'll improve methodology, perform ad-hoc analysis to solve business questions, engage in other project work, and collaborate with team members and others from various partner groups. Additionally, you'll organize and analyze data to make decisions in this highly collaborative and fast-paced culture.

Must-have qualifications

  • A minimum of six years relevant experience in statistical/quantitative modeling and in using various database tools to manipulate large volumes of structured data in a product, pricing or actuarial role in property & casualty insurance
  • {OR} Bachelor's degree in quantitative field and a minimum of three years analytical work experience in a product, pricing or actuarial role in property & casualty insurance.
  • {OR} Master's degree in quantitative field of study and a minimum of three years analytical work experience.
  • {OR} PhD in quantitative field of study.

Preferred skills

  • A history of roles focusing on data analysis, rate making, product development, or predictive modeling within an insurance, finance, or an analytics-focused environment.
  • Strong experience with SQL for data extraction and preparation from large databases, in addition to proficiency with programming languages, such as SAS or R, for modeling.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, core statistical concepts, and predictive modeling techniques such as GLMs and clustering.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset, to go along with strong written and verbal communication, as well as an ability to work effectively with a wide variety of partner teams
  • Prior product, pricing, or actuarial experience.

Compensation

  • $89,600 - $119,500/year depending on position level and experience
  • Gainshare annual cash incentive payment up to 30% of your eligible earnings based on company performance
