Key Responsibilities

  • Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine material requirements and planning sequences.
  • Layout and Fabrication: Mark reference points on metal according to specifications and use tools like torches, shears, and grinders to cut and shape components.
  • Assembly and Fitting: Position, align, and fit parts to form subunits or complete structures using jigs, jacks, wedges, and hammers.
  • Securing Components: Join steel sections using tack welding, bolting, or riveting to ensure structural integrity before final welding.
  • Material Handling: Rig and hoist heavy metal plates or sections into place using cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed units for accuracy and conformance to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading technical drawings, basic welding (MIG/TIG), and operating heavy-duty machinery like brake presses or CNC equipment.
  • Physical Requirements: High level of physical fitness for heavy lifting, climbing, and working at significant heights or in confined spaces.
