Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in pharmacy operations, with specialized experience in sterile compounding and aseptic techniques. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient safety and care by preparing high-quality compounded medications in a controlled, sterile environment. The technician will support pharmacy staff in medication preparation, ensure compliance with safety standards, and deliver exceptional patient service within a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare sterile compounded medications following strict aseptic techniques and established protocols to ensure patient safety.
- Assist pharmacists with medication intake, labeling, and documentation for accurate medication dispensing.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant sterile compounding area in accordance with regulatory standards such as USP <797>.
- Support the preparation of IV infusions and other critical care medications for hospital patients requiring precise dosing.
- Ensure proper inventory management of pharmaceuticals, including LTC (Long-Term Care) pharmacy supplies and hospital stock.
- Verify medication orders against prescriptions, ensuring accuracy and completeness before compounding or dispensing.
- Adhere to medical terminology standards and hospital policies during all phases of medication preparation and patient care activities.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate medication administration and optimize patient outcomes in acute care settings.
Skills
- Proven experience working as a pharmacy technician, particularly within sterile compounding environments.
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, IV infusion preparation, and medication safety protocols.
- Familiarity with LTC pharmacy operations, hospital pharmacy practices, and critical care medication management.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology relevant to pharmacy practice and patient care.
- Ability to efficiently handle intake procedures, inventory control, and medication documentation processes.
- Prior experience in acute care or hospital settings is highly desirable for understanding complex medication needs.
- Competence in medication administration procedures coupled with patient service skills to support healthcare teams effectively.
