Strategic Litigation Counsel – Strategic Litigation Unit

The Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter represents all state officials, employees, agencies, departments, boards, and commissions in matters arising from their public duties. Such representation includes litigation, transactional assistance, and general legal advice to a wide variety of State entities. The Attorney General’s Office employs approximately 200 attorneys organized into 21 legal divisions within 6 sections.

About the Strategic Litigation Unit:

As part of the Special Advocacy Section, the Strategic Litigation Unit has an affirmative litigation mandate for the State of Tennessee. Attorneys in the unit handle impactful litigation on behalf of Tennessee and its residents in state and federal courts, including defending the separation of powers and the constitutional rights of Tennesseans, protecting federalism principles, and pursuing transparency and accountability for certain corporate activities that undermine the democratic process and harm consumers.

Job Overview:

The Strategic Litigation Counsel will help identify, position, and litigate challenges to harmful and unlawful corporate activities that threaten the wellbeing and interests of Tennesseans, as well as by working to preserve Tennessee’s interests in federal agency rulemaking and building coalitions of states and amici to join affirmative suits.

Preferred Qualifications:

· At least two years’ experience litigating civil, appellate, or administrative-law matters

· Juris Doctor degree

· Admission to the Tennessee Bar and in good standing

· Excellent written and oral communication skills (all applicants must submit a recent writing sample)

· Eagerness to be an enthusiastic member of a collaborative, collegial team of incredible public servants

Pay: $100,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
