Structural Design Engineer

Job Role

The Structural Design Engineer (Bridges) is responsible for the design,analysis, and detailing of bridge structures and associated components in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. The role ensures safety, durability, constructability, and cost-effective design of bridge and transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Bridge Design & Analysis

Perform structural design and analysis of bridges including RCC, PSC, steel, and composite bridges.

Design bridge components such as superstructure (girders, decks, slabs) and substructure (piers, abutments, foundations, pile caps).

Carry out load calculations including dead load, live load, impact, wind, seismic, temperature, and braking forces.

Design for IRC loading and special loads as per project requirements.

2. Codes, Standards & Compliance

Ensure designs comply with relevant IRC, IS, MoRTH and NHAI.

Follow project-specific design criteria, specifications, and employers requirements.

Prepare design basis reports and calculation notes.

3. Design Software & Tools

Use bridge and structural design software such as STAAD Pro, MIDAS Civil(optional).

Validate software results through manual calculations.

Coordinate with CAD teams using AutoCAD.

4. Drawings & Documentation

Prepare and review GADs, construction drawings, reinforcement detailing, and bar bending schedules.

Review shop drawings and fabrication drawings (for steel bridges).

Maintain proper documentation and revision control.

5. Coordination & Interface Management

Coordinate with highway, geotechnical, hydrology, and construction teams.

Address design queries from site and resolve technical issues.

Participate in design review meetings with clients, proof consultants, and authorities.

6. Construction Support & Site Activities

Provide technical support during bridge construction and erection stages.

Review construction methodology and suggest design optimizations.

Conduct site visits to ensure compliance with design intent and quality standards.

7. Quality, Safety & Risk Management

Ensure structural safety, serviceability, and durability.

Identify potential design risks and suggest mitigation measures.

Support value engineering and cost-optimization initiatives.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s in Structural Engineering preferred).

Experience:

8–15 years of experience in Structural/Bridge design

Required Skills Technical Skills:

Strong knowledge of bridge engineering principles.

Proficiency in bridge design software.

Working knowledge of IRC codes (IRC:6, IRC:112, IRC:78, IRC:SP series) and IS codes.

Understanding of construction techniques such as segmental construction, launching, balanced cantilever, and precast systems.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From ₹80,000.00 per month
