Structural Draftsman

Position Summary

The Structural Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed structural drawings and plans for buildings, infrastructure, and other civil engineering projects. The role involves working closely with structural engineers to convert design concepts, calculations, and sketches into accurate, compliant technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare structural shop drawings, GA drawings, reinforcement detailing, bar bending schedules (BBS), and formwork layouts.
• Develop as-built drawings, revision drawings, and coordination drawings as needed.
• Interpret and translate engineer sketches, mark-ups, and design inputs into precise drawings.
• Ensure all drawings strictly follow project specifications, codes, and standards (AISC, ACI, BS, Eurocode, etc.).
• Coordinate with architects, MEP teams, and other disciplines to avoid clashes and ensure design consistency.
• Modify drawings based on site conditions, RFI responses, and engineer instructions.
• Perform quantity take-offs related to structural elements when required.
• Maintain drawing logs and ensure proper version control and documentation.
• Use CAD/BIM software to produce high-quality, accurate drawings.
• Participate in technical meetings or coordination sessions as needed.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory; experience with Revit Structure, Tekla, or other BIM tools is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of structural elements:
• Reinforced concrete detailing
• Steel structure detailing
• Foundations, slabs, beams, columns, walls
• Rebar schedules and detailing standards
• Ability to read and understand structural drawings, specifications, and IFC documents.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and drafting discipline.
• Effective communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Diploma / ITI in Civil Engineering, Drafting, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a Structural Draftsman (or as required by employer).
• Experience in building construction, civil infrastructure, or structural consultancy/contracting.
