Job description

1. DESIGN

· Assist with or lead a variety of projects to completion; undertaking integrated 3D modelling and structural design

· Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Structural, and related, building systems, design standards and building program templates.

· Support X-Architects pre-construction and construction management teams for a technical bulletin implementation

• Support internal development and implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards for building systems and contribute to clash detection project reviews.
• Lead design reviews and workshops that drive alignment on key design issues, design practices, new building designs, and initiatives with the focus of reducing the cost of construction and maintenance while enhancing associate experience and operational excellence.
• Collaborate and coordinate with a wide variety of internal operations, design and engineering stakeholders to increase the efficiency and standardization of design across domestic and global facilities.
• Coordinate design development with third-party program- and site-specific third-party architects, engineers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
• Serve as primary technical Structural SME for design reviews of multiple building program templates and site-specific designs.
• Lead review and response to program-wide structural Requests for Information (RFIs)
• Maintain program-wide structural lessons learned repository and lead implementation into future designs.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the design and detailing of structural systems with a clear understanding of the impacts of structural design on adjacent components and systems.
• Work independently while earning trust and building strong rapport across a broader team
• Take complete ownership, ensure multiple design programs and several in-flight construction projects are supported.
• Clear understanding of field constructability preferences, including project sequencing and scheduling constraints
• Think and operate strategically, efficiently, and frugally in all role responsibilities.
• Define complex program requirements and goals.
• Accelerate progress by seeking out the best decision and being the responsible decision-maker in critical design discussions.
• Identify key design/construction constraints
• Escalate critical design decisions or issues to the concerned internal stakeholders.
• Balance expediency, quality and resources through prioritization.
• Lead detailed design discussions while ensuring program-level goals are met.

2. TECHNICAL AND QA/QC

• Produce drawings within project deadlines under supervision.
• Follow quality standards in overall work.
• Understand building construction to at least a basic level.
• Perform personal QA/QC check of own work and drawings before presenting for review.
• Conduct research on suppliers and building materials as required.
• Fill in and submit timesheets in a timely manner, and observe attendance procedures .
• Risk management - is aware of responsibilities as an architect, inform the project leaders of issues and be aware of and manages the risks identified by the project risk register.
• Keep accurate records of meeting actions and follow up in a timely manner alerting others were required.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

· Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering – Masters optional.

· Hold Unlimited License in UAE and would be preferred

· Excellent design skills and software skills - 3D design, STAAD‐Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, PROKON, ROBOT, AutoCAD, other related design software

· Excellent command of written and spoken English

· Member of UAE Society Engineers. Registration with home country professional body highly regarded.

· Project Management training is desirable

· Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

EXPERIENCE

· Previous experience in an office environment working as part of a team / leading a small team required

· Understand and be up to date with codes and standards and their application

· Competently use the main Structural codes of practice and Building Regulations.

· Ability to work unsupervised to a high quality

· Meet tight deadlines

· Demonstrate business acumen

· Buils relationships with clients, staff and senior colleagues

· Must have relevant construction and health and safety knowledge/legislation.

· Experience in stakeholder management – sub-consultants (required), client (desirable)

· Project stages – experience in design and/or delivery of packages of small projects independently

· Industry Experience – in innovative practices locally or internationally or reputable local practices is highly regarded
