Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fabrication Engineer with strong expertise in structural steel fabrication, both on-site and in-shop, to join our growing operations. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of hands-on experience in structural fabrication projects, solid command over CAD design/drafting, and a deep understanding of industrial fabrication techniques. A blend of engineering knowledge and practical field expertise is essential.

Key Responsibilities:Design & Technical Planning

• Interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and client specifications to plan fabrication works.
• Prepare and modify fabrication drawings using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools.
• Coordinate with design and project engineering teams to ensure structural feasibility and safety.
• Optimize design for ease of fabrication and site erection, keeping material wastage and cost in check.

Fabrication Oversight

• Lead and supervise fabrication activities at the workshop and site, ensuring compliance with design, quality, and safety standards.
• Develop cutting lists, fabrication schedules, welding plans, and assembly drawings.
• Coordinate material requirements and plan procurement in advance to avoid delays.
• Supervise fit-up, welding, grinding, assembly, and finishing of structures.
• Hands-on ability to guide workers in manual and semi-automatic fabrication methods.

Project Execution & Site Management

• Manage site fabrication and erection of structures, including planning for manpower, tools, and logistics.
• Resolve on-site fabrication issues in real time, coordinating between engineers, foremen, and subcontractors.
• Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks to ensure conformance with structural tolerances and safety protocols.
• Liaise with civil, electrical, and architectural teams for integrated project delivery.

Team Management & Training

• Lead a team of fabricators, fitters, welders, riggers, and helpers.
• Train junior engineers and supervisors in fabrication techniques and standards.
• Enforce compliance with safety practices and site discipline.

Quality Control & Documentation

• Ensure dimensional accuracy, welding quality, and structural integrity through stringent inspection.
• Maintain records of daily progress, welding logs, material traceability, and inspection reports.
• Prepare and review method statements, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), and material submittals.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Tekla (optional), and other CAD software.
• Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding processes (MIG, TIG, SMAW), and surface finishing.
• Excellent reading of fabrication & erection drawings.
• Ability to work with hands and guide teams practically on-site and in the workshop.
• Knowledge of applicable codes such as IS, AWS, and BS standards for fabrication and welding.
• Strong project planning, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

• Education: Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Fabrication Technology / Structural Engineering or related fields.
• Experience: Minimum 10 years in structural steel fabrication with at least 5 years in a supervisory or lead role at site.
• Certifications: Welding inspector certification (e.g., CSWIP or equivalent) is a plus.
