Structural Metal Fabricator

Job Purpose:

Fabricate, construct or manufacture materials from raw inventory into WIP and finished goods.

Tasks:

  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using measuring tools.
  • Align and fit parts according to specifications using hydraulic struts or jacks.
  • Move parts into position manually or with pallet jacks and forklifts.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines such as saws, brakes, shears, grinders and drill presses to cut, bend, punch, drill or otherwise form metal components.
  • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Lift or move materials and finished products using pallet jacks, forklifts and carts.
  • Clean materials for fitment using air guns, acetone, surface pads or shop towels.
  • Remove sharp edges using hand files, portable grinders, portable drills, deburr tools and drill presses.

Detailed Work Activities:

  • Align parts or workpieces to ensure proper assembly.
  • Assemble temporary equipment or structures.
  • Draw guide lines or markings on materials or workpieces using patterns or other references.
  • Inspect materials for defects or impurities.
  • Lay out parts to prepare for assembly.
  • Lift materials or workpieces manually or with other lifting equipment.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Mount attachments or tools onto production equipment.
  • Mount materials or workpieces onto production equipment.

Work Environment

  • The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical objects and directly work with hand tools; including but not limited to air nozzles, impact guns, pliers, hammers, and mechanical devices
