We are seeking a driven and knowledgeable Structural Steel Engineer to strengthen our delivery of major building and infrastructure projects at SSE. You will utilize specialist expertise in steel structures to develop safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions, contributing to the success of high-rise, commercial, and essential infrastructure schemes. - Lead and support the design and analysis of steel-framed structures, including buildings, bridges, and bespoke engineered solutions, using Eurocodes, British Standards, and international codes.
- Develop detailed steel connection designs, calculations, fabrication drawings, and digital models using cutting-edge software.
- Integrate Building Information Modeling (BIM) and structural analysis tools to optimize steel designs for safety, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
- Work collaboratively with architects, other engineering disciplines, fabricators, and contractors to ensure seamless integration and constructability of steel elements.
- Contribute to technical reviews, site inspections, and quality control processes to deliver compliant, robust, and buildable steel structures.
- Advance sustainability strategies in steel design, including embodied carbon reduction, efficient material use, and circular economy principles.
- Prepare technical reports, method statements, tender documents, and risk assessments aligned with industry best practice.
- Champion health, safety, and welfare, promoting safe design and site practices throughout all project stages.
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, or related Engineering discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Proven experience delivering steel structure designs for buildings or infrastructure projects, ideally within a consultancy or major contractor environment.
- Expert user of industry-standard design and detailing software such as Tekla Structures, Autodesk Revit, Robot, ETABS, or similar.
- Strong understanding of UK and international steel design codes, connection design, and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to collaborate in diverse, multidisciplinary project teams.
- Effective, clear communicator with the ability to engage confidently with colleagues, project partners, and clients.
- Forward-thinking and adaptable, committed to professional growth and keeping pace with digital and sustainability-focused innovations.
