Student Intern, Informatics (Summer 2026)

Job Description:


The Informatics Student Intern will work under the mentorship of our Remote Sensing Scientist to support geospatial application development, data workflows, and emerging technology initiatives. This internship is focused on software development and applied data science, delivering practical solutions for multidisciplinary teams. The Informatics Student Intern will actively contribute to the development of machine learning and AI-driven solutions, including computer vision models, geospatial analytics, and data infrastructure. The Informatics Student Intern will be a champion and leader of our company's core values while maintaining internal and external customer engagement and satisfaction.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Developing tools, scripts, and workflows using open-source technologies and multi-source platforms to support internal teams
  • Assisting in building and deploying applications and informatics solutions
  • Contributing to computer vision, machine learning, and AI model development (e.g. feature extraction, classification, automation)
  • Supporting database design, data pipelines, and system integrations across diverse datasets
  • Performing vision modeling, automation, and applied analytics on spatial data
  • Researching, evaluating, and prototyping emerging technologies in AI and informatics
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to deliver scalable, real-world solutions



Job Requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Interest in geospatial technologies, machine learning, or AI
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages
  • Exposure to machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)
  • Understanding of databases (SQL, PostGIS, or similar)
  • Experience with APIs, automation, or cloud platforms
