About MCC

Metropolitan Community College is the oldest public institution of higher learning in Kansas City, Missouri, founded in 1915 as the Kansas City Polytechnic Institute. The Junior College of Kansas City, as it was known starting in 1919, was one of the first schools in the country to award an associate degree. Today, MCC offers 125 associate degree and certificate programs.

Metropolitan Community College comprises five campuses (including MCC-Online) on the Missouri side of the Greater Kansas City area 47 major buildings and about 550 acres in all: MCC-Blue River, located in Independence, Missouri; MCC-Longview located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, MCC-Maple Woods located in the Northland of Kansas City, Missouri; and MCC-Penn Valley, located in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri.

MCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, several programs have specific accreditations as well.

Job Summary

Incumbents provide basic information and services to students and prospective students regarding enrollment process, financial aid, career services, disability support, records and transcripts, or counseling, and perform clerical duties.

Essential Functions

  • Provide information to prospective and current students, to include information on admissions, academic requirements and processes, financial aid, college offerings and services, and/or registration processes
  • Provide assistance to students and other individuals; work may involve responding to general inquiries via phone, email, or in person; distributing supplies and resources; providing referrals; directing calls to appropriate personnel/departments; giving campus tours; assisting students with completing documentation; reviewing and collecting documentation; and processing payments
  • Maintain records, call sheets, forms, spreadsheets, and training and other documentation; enter and track student data related to test scores, activities, status, financial aid, scholarships, and other financial, general, and confidential information
  • Perform basic clerical duties to include maintaining supplies, reserving rooms, processing correspondence, preparing and distributing materials packets, and maintaining the calendar and scheduling appointments for all counselors in the department, taking into account their workload, other college committees and responsibilities, individual priorities and preferences
  • Assist department staff with basic administrative duties, to include setting up and reserving rooms, distributing promotional materials, sending out invitations and reminders, registering students, and monitoring attendance, during special events and to facilitate related departmental operations
  • Highlight department events and programming using displays in campus showcase and bulletin boards by creating display and bulletin board items and other marketing materials in various formats
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma OR equivalent (G.E.D.)

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require feeling, grasping, hearing, keyboarding, reaching, repetitive motion, standing, talking, visual acuity, and walking. The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly.
