Position Summary
The Student Success and Retention Specialist for the School of Nursing (SON) will support nursing students (specifically pre and post licensure students) by providing targeted academic coaching, mentoring, and retention strategies to promote their success. Collaborating closely with program leadership and the Office of Student Success, this individual will identify students at risk, develop individualized success plans, and connect students to academic and support resources. The specialist will monitor student progress, facilitate/coordinate workshops on study skills, time management, and foster a supportive learning environment to enhance retention and program completion rates. This role is critical in ensuring pre- and post-licensure students are well prepared to achieve their academic and professional goals. The Student Success and Retention Specialist also collaborates with the UNCG Division of Student Success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, counseling, education, psychology or related field.
  • Previous experience in counseling, academic coaching, tutoring, or student support services.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technology skills.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing, counseling, education, psychology or related field.
  • At least one year of work experience with nursing or health-related student success activities.
  • Knowledge of nursing curriculum and student academic success and retention strategies.
