Student Supportive Services Manager - Education Industry

Job Description: Student Supportive Services Manager

Position Title: Student Supportive Services Manager
Reports To: Dean of Students / Executive Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: San Francisco, CA
Salary Range: $65,000 - $79,000 annually DOE

Position Summary

The Student Supportive Services Manager is responsible for continuous development of programs and services that help students address non-academic barriers such as food access, housing stability, transportation, mental health referrals, and emergency needs. The Manager oversees and coordinates the delivery of services for all students, supervises the Supportive Services Advisors, maintains case management systems and data tracking, and serves as a key liaison to community partners and workforce initiative agencies to ensure students receive comprehensive, coordinated support. Participate and contribute to leadership meetings and meetings with funders by providing reports and analysis of student barriers, as well as assessment of impact of various programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Service Management

  • Oversee daily operations of the supportive services department.
  • Develop new and manage existing programs that address basic needs and promote student persistence and success in the program with the goal of expanding our in-house services.
  • Maintain case management systems and ensure timely documentation of each interaction.
  • Ensure timely response to student requests.
  • Point-person for crisis response and early intervention for at-risk students.
  • Produce activity reports by category and by student as requested by management and funders.
  • Manage the availability of the hired licensed clinical worker/psychologist to meet the needs of the students.
  • Create workshops/hire providers to teach workshops on stress management, healthy relationships and/or financial literacy.

Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Coordinate referrals and service connections with community-based organizations and public agencies.
  • Collaborate with external workforce initiative partners to support participants’ basic needs and retention.
  • Represent the organization in partner meetings and events.

Supervision & Team Support

  • Supervise and support one Supportive Services Advisor.
  • Provide coaching, training, and guidance on student support practices.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Track service utilization, outcomes, and program impact.
  • Prepare departmental reports and ensure compliance with confidentiality and FERPA standards.
  • Support grant reporting related to basic needs programs.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Work closely with academic, admissions, externship, and career services teams to coordinate student support efforts.
  • Contribute to student retention and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, Psychology, Education, or related field AND 2+ years of experience in case management, student services, or human services. OR Master's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, public benefits, and housing/food security issues.
  • Experience supervising staff, interns, or volunteers is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in postsecondary education or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and crisis response.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
