Fredericksburg Academy, the leading independent school in the Fredericksburg region, is seeking a full-time Lower School Second Grade Teacher, with a contract running from October 2025 through July 2026, with the potential to extend into the following school year. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing an engaging Second Grade curriculum inclusive of language arts, math, social studies, and sciences. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching young learners, fostering strong relationships with students and families, and working collaboratively with colleagues to create a dynamic, nurturing classroom environment.

Job Overview
We are seeking dedicated and adaptable Substitute Teachers to join our educational team. The ideal candidates will possess a passion for teaching and the ability to engage students in a variety of subjects. As a Substitute Teacher, you will be responsible for maintaining a positive learning environment, implementing lesson plans, and ensuring that students continue to thrive in their educational journey during the absence of their regular teacher.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher and adapt them as necessary to meet the needs of students.
• Manage classroom behavior effectively, fostering a respectful and productive learning environment.
• Engage students in various subjects including literacy, math, and special education topics.
• Support students with diverse learning needs, including those with autism and other special education requirements.
• Facilitate curriculum development and lesson planning when required.
• Provide individualized attention to students, assisting with tutoring and reinforcing concepts taught in class.
• Maintain open communication with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
• Utilize effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning.
• Document student performance and report any significant issues or concerns to the appropriate staff members.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting is essential.
• Background in early childhood education or childhood development is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Ability to work collaboratively with other educators and adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs.
• Previous experience in tutoring or working with special education programs is a plus.
