SUBSTITUTE TEACHER - EARLY EDUCATION 2-5 YRS.

St. Mary's School is a non-denominational Christian school located in a quiet residential community in Aliso Viejo, CA. We are a fully accredited IB World School serving over 700 students from Early Preschool to Grade 8.

We are looking for Substitute Teachers with experience in an Early Education program who can provide assistance for Early Education classroom and Outdoor Curriculum teachers by creating a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth of the students.

Essential Duties:

• Provide supervision of students throughout the school day in order to ensure their safety and security.
• Prepare classroom materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Assist in the implementation of appropriate instructional learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
• Interact, initiate and encourage the developmental growth of the children in activities throughout the day through age-appropriate interaction and guidance.
• Assist the teacher in managing student behavior in accordance with the School’s character development and guidance policies and procedures.
• Ensure a 1-12 ratio is maintained at all times, both inside and outside.
• Supervise students during recess and lunch periods, ensuring that students are within sight at all times.
• During outdoor classroom time, provide supervision, observations, guidance and scaffolding.
• Support the School and its leadership.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of Early Education, Early Education Coordinator and Head of School.

Minimum Requirements:

1. 12 ECE units completed prior to start date that include Child, Family & Community, Principles of Early Education and Child Human Growth & Development (Early Years). Completed courses in Guidance & Discipline and Programs & Curriculum preferred but not required.

2. Full understanding of developmental levels of children and corresponding curriculum.

3. Practical understanding of CCL Title 22.

4. Proven knowledge of appropriate teaching practices and discipline procedures.

5. Able to stand and sit on the floor for extended periods of time. Ability to squat, bend, kneel, reach, push, pull and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for short periods of time.

6. Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external)

7. Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school

8. Highly ethical team player.

Compensation:

$82.50 for 1/2 day, $165 for full day.
