Friends School of Wilmington is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Summer Camp Counselors to join our 2026 summer camp team! POSITION OVERVIEW

Summer Camp Counselors play a key role in creating a positive, safe, and engaging summer camp experience. The majority of this role will be supervising and leading activities in our full-day “Fun with Friends” camp for children ages 4-13. Counselors will also assist with early morning supervision for campers arriving before the camp day begins and provide additional support in other camp sessions when needed. This role requires energy, creativity, patience, and strong communication skills. Counselors will work closely with the Summer Camp Coordinator and other camp leaders to provide a memorable experience for all campers and their families.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Supervision & Engagement

• Lead and actively participate in Fun with Friends, the full-day camp program, by facilitating games, crafts, outdoor activities, and group projects.
• Supervise and engage with campers during early morning care before the camp day officially starts.
• Assist other camp leaders as needed in their specialty sessions, providing additional support in the classroom as needed.
• Foster a positive and inclusive camp culture by encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and friendship-building.

Daily Operations

• Help organize campers into groups and guide them through daily activities.
• Supervise transitions between activities to ensure a smooth and structured camp experience.
• Assist with camper drop-off and pick-up, ensuring a welcoming and efficient process for families.

Safety & Communication

• Enforce camp rules and safety procedures to ensure a secure environment for all campers.
• Report any incidents, injuries, or behavioral concerns to the Camp Coordinator promptly and complete required documentation.
• Maintain clear and professional communication with fellow staff, campers, and families.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience working with children in a group setting (such as summer camps, after-school programs, coaching, or teaching assistance) OR 3+ years of babysitting experience.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations.
• Passion for creating a fun, engaging, and safe environment for children.
• Experience leading activities in sports, arts, STEM, or outdoor education is a plus!
• College students majoring in education, social work, psychology, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

• Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
• Hours: 30 - 40 hours per week
• Schedule: Monday - Friday, morning and afternoon shifts available
• Preferred Certifications: First Aid & CPR (required by start date)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The employee is often required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees in this job must be energetic and flexible and possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with records processes, and do extensive reading and research. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light work, as defined by the Social Security Administration’s Code of Federal Regulations.

TIMELINE & SALARY

This role is a non-exempt, part-time position with an hourly pay rate commensurate with the experience, skills, and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position, approximately $15-18/hour. Applicants should be prepared to adhere to the following timeline:

• February-March: Interviews and hiring
• June 1-5: Counselor training
• Camp weeks are June 8-12; June 15-19; June 22-26; July 6-10; July 13-17; July 20-24; and July 27-31
