Summer Camp Craft Counselor

Overview
Are you a creative arts and crafts enthusiast who wants to spread joy this summer? The Crafter’s Library is seeking an Assistant Summer Camp Counselor to bring our mission to life. Join our team to inspire creativity and foster a love for hands-on crafting in a fun and inclusive environment!

Note: This position requires extensive walking up and down stairs, and a daily ¼ mile walk to a picnic lunch location.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises groups of up to 12 children aged 8-14 years old while delivering camp curriculum in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
  • Independently develops projects and teaches crafting skills to see project through to completion
  • Supervises and ensures the safety and well-being of assigned group.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment
  • Occasionally assist retail duties (stocking, working register, answering basic craft questions)

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience teaching and/or guiding children aged 8-14 through structured arts and crafts projects.
  • Ability to organize, plan, collaborate and implement new arts and crafts projects weekly.
  • Highly skilled in improvisation.
  • Energetic and engaging personality.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences and large groups of children.
  • Able to teach at least three of the following skills:
  • Crochet
  • Knitting
  • Embroidery / Cross Stitch
  • Needle Point
  • Needle Felting
  • Sewing
  • Paper Mache
  • Painting or Drawing
  • Macrame
  • Other (please specify in your application)
  • Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, fellow employees, campers, and our guests.
  • Ability to exercise safe work habits.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Trained in child safety protocols
  • Trained in CPR and First Aid
  • Experience working in a retail environment

Physical Demands; Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 10 or fewer pounds frequently.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times a day.
  • Supportive and open employment culture.

Pay: From $17.50 per hour
