Summer Camp Head Counselor

About Us:

We operate two beautiful camp properties, Camp Evelyn in Plymouth, Wisconsin, and Camp Manitou in Shoto, Wisconsin. Camp Evelyn has over 240 acres of forest with access to Crystal Lake and the Mullet River. Camp Manitou has over 140 acres of forest with access to the West Twin River and our own beautiful Serenity Lake. Each summer, over 1,000 girls, ranging in age from 6 to 17 years old, attend camp. Girls have the option of staying just for the day or overnight. The camping season starts in June and goes through the end of August.

We are looking for qualified staff who are excited about helping girls grow strong and are committed to their jobs. Students in all fields will benefit by working with children in an informal setting. Applicants should realize that the job of a camp staff is challenging, demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Overview
Join our dynamic summer camp team as the Head Counselor, where you will lead, inspire, and supervise a vibrant group of campers and staff. This energetic role offers an exciting opportunity to shape unforgettable summer experiences for children while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. As the Head Counselor, you will serve as a role model, mentor fellow staff members, and ensure that all activities run smoothly and safely. Your leadership will help create a fun-filled summer that promotes growth, friendship, and lifelong memories.

Duties

  • Lead daily camp activities, ensuring they are engaging, safe, and aligned with camp goals
  • Supervise and support a team of counselors and junior staff, providing guidance and mentorship
  • Manage camper behavior through effective behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement
  • Coordinate with activity specialists to facilitate sports coaching, arts, theater, or other specialized programs
  • Enforce safety protocols by conducting regular safety checks and ensuring adherence to first aid procedures
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and campers to foster a welcoming camp community
  • Assist in planning special events, field trips, and themed activities that enhance camper experience

Experience

  • Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, tutoring, babysitting, or camp environments
  • Demonstrated management skills and ability to handle diverse behaviors in group settings
  • Experience in sports coaching, theater arts, or other extracurricular activities is highly desirable
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team of young staff members
  • Familiarity with childcare regulations and best practices for creating an inclusive environment for all children

Hours

We are an overnight summer camp, so overnight availability for this role Sunday - Friday is required. There is scheduled time off, which includes one night off per week (starting at 6pm).

Pay: $430.00 - $445.00 per week
