Position: Marine Superintendent
Location: Qatar
Experience: 5–8 years of marine / sea-going and/or shore-based experience
Education / Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science / Maritime Studies / related marine discipline; Certificate of Competency (e.g. Master Mariner / Class-1) or equivalent marine qualification.
Oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant daily operations of assigned vessels.
Conduct regular vessel inspections, audits, and surveys (safety, navigation, cargo operations, maintenance, statutory compliance).
Ensure vessels meet all relevant international and flag/port-state regulations for safety, environment, and classification.
Provide technical and operational guidance to shipboard staff (Masters, officers, crew) and liaise with shore-based management and other departments.
Coordinate maintenance, repairs, dry-dock planning, and ensure proper upkeep and readiness of vessels.
Manage documentation and vessel records: certificates, statutory documents, safety & compliance logs, inspection and audit records.
Conduct and lead incident / accident investigations or near-miss analyses, implement corrective/preventive actions, and participate in emergency response when needed.
Support crew training, briefings, and debriefings — especially regarding safety, emergency procedures, and operational best practices.
Monitor and control operational costs, budgets for marine operations, maintenance, repairs, and ensure cost-effective vessel management.
Strong knowledge of shipboard operations — navigation, cargo/ballast operations, mooring, cargo handling, maintenance.
Thorough understanding of international maritime regulations and standards (e.g. safety, environmental, classification, statutory compliance).
Significant sea-going experience (preferably as a senior deck officer: Chief Officer or Master), and some shore-based or fleet-management exposure.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; capable of liaising with multinational crews and various stakeholders.
Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of making decisions under pressure and managing operational issues effectively.
Competence in documentation, reporting, and maintaining management systems (safety, compliance, audits).
Flexibility and readiness to travel / conduct vessel visits, port calls, and handle variable operational demands.
Reports to Fleet Manager / Head of Marine Operations / Senior Management responsible for fleet/vessel operations.
Works closely with technical/maintenance departments, safety/HSSE teams, crewing departments, port/terminal authorities, classification societies, and other relevant stakeholders.
