Position Summary
The Head Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall maintenance, agronomic health, and visual presentation of Weymouth Country Club’s golf course, practice facilities, and club grounds. This leader will ensure championship-level playing conditions, superior aesthetics, and safe, sustainable operations while aligning with Arcis Golf’s brand standards, environmental stewardship initiatives, and member-experience philosophy.
This role requires a hands-on, people-first leader who combines agronomic expertise with strong team development, fiscal responsibility, and proactive communication with club leadership and membership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Course & Grounds Management
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute all maintenance programs for greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice areas
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality playing conditions aligned with member expectations and seasonal demands
  • Oversee irrigation system performance, water management strategies, and conservation initiatives
  • Maintain course set-up standards including mowing heights, hole locations, and tournament preparation
  • Manage clubhouse grounds, landscaping, parking areas, and exterior aesthetics
Agronomy & Environmental Stewardship
  • Develop and implement annual agronomic plans, fertility programs, and cultural practices
  • Monitor turf health, soil conditions, pest pressures, and disease prevention
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Champion sustainable practices consistent with Arcis Golf initiatives (water usage, chemical management, equipment efficiency)
Leadership & Staff Development
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and lead the golf course maintenance team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and professional growth
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ongoing coaching for staff development
  • Lead by example with a strong on-course presence and hands-on leadership style
Budgeting & Financial Management
  • Prepare and manage the annual operating and capital budgets for the golf course and grounds
  • Control labor, chemical, equipment, and supply costs while maintaining quality standards
  • Assist in capital planning for course improvements, renovations, and equipment replacement
  • Track expenses, analyze variances, and provide clear reporting to club leadership
Communication & Member Relations
  • Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Director of Golf, and club leadership
  • Communicate agronomic plans, course conditions, and major projects clearly and professionally to members
  • Support club tournaments, outings, and special events with exceptional course presentation
  • Respond professionally to member feedback and concerns regarding course conditions
Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce all safety protocols for staff, equipment operation, and chemical handling
  • Maintain OSHA compliance and safety training standards
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and operated safely
Qualifications
Required
  • Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, including supervisory responsibility
  • Strong agronomic knowledge of cool-season turf management
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills
  • Experience with irrigation systems, budgeting, and capital planning
  • Valid pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain promptly)
Preferred
  • Experience at private clubs or high-expectation daily-fee facilities
  • Prior experience within a multi-course or management company environment
  • Knowledge of sustainable golf initiatives and water conservation programs
  • Strong communication skills with members and boards
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate golf course maintenance equipment
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required
