Compensation:
Salary: $141,664 (UTLO compression rate)

Job Summary:
The Superintendent, Maintenance is responsible for managing the bus maintenance program for an operating depot or central maintenance facility during the assigned tour of duty. This role ensures a safe work environment and efficient maintenance operations that support the delivery of safe, clean, and reliable transportation for the riding public.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage all maintenance functions during the assigned tour of duty within a maintenance facility, ensuring the delivery of safe, clean, and efficient bus service. Oversee hourly staff in daily facility and equipment maintenance activities. Support the development of technical specifications and evaluations for new bus procurements. Research and analyze bus equipment, procedures, and maintenance practices. Partner with maintenance personnel across the department to assess operational efficiency. Provide maintenance and technical training, end‑user support, and system training (including Spear) to hourly, supervisory, and managerial staff in depots and shops.

Manage a full range of labor relations activities; develop work assignments for maintenance line supervisors; implement discipline; develop rule compliance criteria; assist in preparation for labor negotiations and hourly and supervisory work picks. Develop procedures and work practices, and assist in implementing new procedures throughout the department.

Develop and implement strategies to reduce costs and increase productivity. Recommend overtime for hourly and supervisory personnel, as needed, to meet performance goals. Make recommendations with the goal of improving safety, reliability, customer satisfaction, and productivity of Bus maintenance operations. Develop fleet and scrap plans, coordinate warranty activities, conduct equipment and component testing, and lead vehicle/equipment studies, including preparation of related reports.

Support ongoing development of personnel to maintain a high‑quality fleet and promote upward mobility. Assess training needs for supervisory and hourly employees. Research industry technical advancements and evaluate potential implementation within NYC Transit/MTA Bus. Assist with incorporating new technologies and methods into maintenance operations.
Education and Experience:

Five (5) years of related experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of managerial/ supervisory experience.
Desired Skills:
-
Knowledge of vehicular maintenance operations, including personnel development, work prioritization, overtime distribution, and preventative maintenance procedures.

Knowledge of heavy-duty revenue vehicles, new bus technologies, and the maintenance procedures/standards required to maintain them, including an understanding of specifications

Knowledge of diesel and compressed natural gas engines, fuel systems and emissions controls, mandated emission requirements and engine configuration procedures.

Knowledge of vehicle systems and components

Knowledge of design, manufacturing processes, product testing and maintenance procedures

Ability to design testing systems and procedures based on engineering specifications

BA in engineering or related field preferred
