Painting Supervisor

🧭 Reports to: Coating Manager


The Opportunity

We are seeking a qualified Painting Supervisor to supervise and coordinate all surface preparation and coating activities on fabricated pipe spools. The successful candidate will ensure that blasting and painting works are carried out in full compliance with client specifications, approved procedures, applicable standards, and project schedule requirements. The role involves overseeing site activities, monitoring quality and safety performance, coordinating inspections, and ensuring proper documentation and reporting. The Painting Supervisor will work closely with QA/QC, production, and project teams to deliver high-quality coating applications while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations and project timelines.


What You’ll Be Accountable For

Work Planning & Supervision:

  • Plan daily painting activities based on fabrication and coating schedule.
  • Allocate manpower, equipment, and materials efficiently for blasting and painting operations.

Surface Preparation Monitoring:

  • Ensure correct surface preparation techniques (e.g., abrasive blasting, power tool cleaning) are applied as per project requirements.
  • Verify cleanliness and surface profile prior to painting application.

Coating Application Supervision:

  • Oversee application of primers, intermediates, and final coats using airless spray, brush, or roller, as required.
  • Ensure correct mixing ratios, pot life, and application conditions (humidity, dew point, surface temp) are maintained.

Quality Control Compliance:

  • Coordinate with QC Inspectors to conduct WFT/DFT checks, holiday testing, adhesion tests, and ensure full compliance with coating specifications.
  • Maintain painting logs, batch records, and daily progress reports.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):

  • Enforce use of appropriate PPE and compliance with safety procedures related to flammable materials, compressed air, and confined space painting.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and ensure all painting personnel follow site safety policies.

Material & Equipment Handling:

  • Monitor inventory of coatings, thinners, and abrasive materials, report shortages proactively.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of spraying equipment and gauges (e.g., Elcometer)

Training & Team Management:

  • Mentor and train painters and blasters on best practices and safety.
  • Assess performance and ensure skilled workforce deployment.

Client/Inspector Coordination:

  • Liaise with client representatives and third-party inspectors during hold/witness points.
  • Ensure punch list items related to painting are resolved promptly.


Qualifications

  • Diploma or Technical Certificate in Coating Technology, Engineering, or related field.


Experience

  • 5+ years in industrial painting, with 2+ years in a supervisory role (pipe spools or similar).
  • Good communication, reporting, and problem‑solving skills.
