Supervisor, Communications & Engagement, Division of Facilities Management (DFM)
Summary Description:
Under direction of the Deputy Chief, Division of Facilities Management (DFM), supervises and supports all communications and public engagement efforts for the division. Coordinates across all three departments (Department of Planning and Construction, Department of Facility Operations, and Department of Facility Maintenance) within the division to ensure consistent messaging and engagement practices. Supervises the production of all publications for the Division such as the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan (CMP) and Sustainability Plan. Develops streamlined communication processes such as providing timely updates on work orders to both the school and community and ensuring webpages are updated across DFM with relevant updates in a timely manner. Represents the division at public-facing events such as community forums, cluster meetings, Board of Education meetings, and other construction or facility related public meetings supporting project managers and DFM leadership. Under direction, plans communication strategies, organizes and implements a communications plan for the Division of Facilities Management utilizing print, digital, and graphic presentation materials. In consultation with functional specialists, develops forms, letters, notices, web pages, and newsletter-type publications for use by current department/division staff. This position supervises construction services specialist. Physical Demands: None Special Requirements: Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, to attend community meetings.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of communication and public engagement strategies, including experience developing and implementing strategic communication plans across diverse audiences. Familiarity with facilities planning, construction, maintenance or operations is preferred; ability to quickly learn and adapt to technical subject matter is essential. Ability to perform work of a detailed nature that requires creative thinking and work under pressure to meet prescribed deadlines. Knowledge of processes/practices used to measure performance and develop systemic improvement models. Excellent public speaking abilities, including representing senior leadership at Board of Education meetings, community forums, and other public-facing events. Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple critical projects simultaneously. Strong coordination and supervisory skills to effectively lead and support diverse teams.Excellent technology, organization/time management, communication (written and oral), interpersonal skills, and ability to work as part of a team. Thorough knowledge of and proficiency with Microsoft Office. Excellent interpersonal, human relations, oral, and written communication skills required. The ability to develop user-friendly forms, training materials, and communication tools that enable a clear and consistent message to be disseminated across a large organization. The ability to utilize multiple communication mediums to convey information to a wide audience. Ability to research, write, edit and/or rewrite material to conform to high journalistic standards. Thorough knowledge of technologies used in print and web publishing and graphics manipulation. Familiarity with web communications, content management systems, and emergency communications technologies and trends.
Education Training Experience:
Bachelor?s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, business, journalism, public engagement or related field; Master?s degree preferred. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications or public engagement, preferably in K-12 facility related fields and two or more years of experience in an administrative or supervisory role. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
