Job Description

The core mission of the Supplier Performance Manager (SPM) role is to safeguard company operations by proactively monitoring suppliers, implementing de-risking strategies, and driving corrective actions at supplier sites. The SPM ensures strong operational performance across a portfolio of production suppliers.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Operations, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in Supply Chain, Supplier Management, Program Management, or Supplier Development.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain operations, procurement strategies, and supplier relationship management.
  • Solid understanding of quality systems, continuous improvement tools (APQP, Lean, Six Sigma), and production planning methods.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and supplier performance tools such as LOB and WIP trackers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple supplier engagements concurrently, including remote and on-site coordination.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex supplier recovery projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement supplier performance initiatives to achieve on-time delivery, consistent quality, and operational excellence.
  • Manage supplier assessments, development programs, and escalation processes in alignment with supply chain strategies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for supplier performance improvement activities, collaborating with both internal teams and supplier leadership.
  • Support crisis management and recovery for underperforming suppliers to protect delivery schedules and product quality.
  • Communicate risks, progress updates, and performance improvement plans to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Supplier Monitoring, Evaluation & Approval

  • Evaluate and assess supplier risk and define appropriate monitoring plans in line with established procedures.
  • Execute monitoring plans through annual and monthly performance reviews, baseline assessments, and supplier site visits/audits (scheduled and ad hoc) to evaluate capability, capacity, and compliance.

Supplier Performance Management

  • Drive improvements in supplier logistics and quality using KPIs, scorecards, root cause analysis, and action planning.
  • Lead the supplier escalation process to address delivery delays or quality nonconformance.
  • Track and expedite critical parts using tools such as Line of Balance (LOB), Work-in-Process (WIP) trackers, and MRP diagnostics.

Supplier Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Guide suppliers in applying APQP, Lean principles, and process optimization to achieve sustainable improvements.
  • Define supplier development targets based on business needs and oversee implementation.

Cross-Functional Program Management

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Commodity Managers, and Operations to ensure sourcing alignment and smooth program ramp-ups.
  • Resolve supplier-related obstacles (e.g., documentation, first article approvals, change requests) that may affect delivery schedules.
  • Provide regular updates and briefings to Supplier Performance teams and business units on supplier status and escalations.
