Supplier Quality Engineer

The Role:

We are currently looking for a Quality Engineer at Flint Assembly. In this role, the successful incumbent will be responsible for upholding OEM's purpose and values and ensuring the safe work practices of all its employees. You will support the Plant in achieving business plan metrics with a focus on attainment of Quality metrics through being the leader in supplier quality and engineering issues that arise on the off shift.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with General Assembly and Body Shop Production teams to contain engineering and supplier quality defects along with providing breakpoints.
  • Write SPPSs to document Supplier Issues and kick off containments at supplier facilities.
  • Work with third party containment company to sort, inspect, and rework parts outside of Flint Assembly.
  • Manage 3-4 Hourly Employees in Supplier Action Center (SAC) Group located inside Flint Assembly.
  • Write Task Instruction Sheets for the SAC Group to sort, inspection, and rework parts.
  • Write End of Shift Report and conduct Face to Face with 1st shift Quality Engineers.
  • Provide feedback to production on scrap parts
  • Monitor Supplier Quality Defects in Tracking System.
  • Represent Quality at production meetings

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years automotive engineering, quality, or manufacturing experience
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Exercises independent judgment in managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from Manager.
  • Problem Solving Skills required
  • Microsoft Office Skills required
  • Able to work up to 2 Saturdays a month

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient use of GSIP, ECM, Excel, PRTS, SPPS, GQTS, Teamcenter,MPDs and Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Red-X Journeyman / Technical Problem-Solving Experience

Typical Day in the Role:

  • Will need to provide some direction to a small off-shift team (3-4 individuals).
  • Training will take place on 3rd shift.
  • End-of-shift handoff from 2nd shift QE includes:
    • Reviewing and discussing any issues.
    • Attending potential meetings throughout the night.
    • Communicating with production and collaborating with the off-shift team.
    • Addressing supplier quality or part-related issues by establishing containments and breakpoints on the floor.
  • Once a containment is established:
    • Work with suppliers to resolve the issue.
    • Enter issues into the system (training will be provided).
    • Tools used include MS Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SPPS (Supplier Practical Problem Solving).

Manufacturing Experience:

  • Candidate should have prior experience working in a plant or engineering environment.
  • The role is based in a heavy-duty truck manufacturing plant.
  • The plant is highly automated, offering exposure to advanced manufacturing systems.
  • There is always work to be done-this is a fast-paced, productive environment and a great team to work with.
  • Office space is located at the front of the facility, but the role will require regular visits to the production floor and collaboration with production teams.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Engineering preferred.
  • Technical and Quality Certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience required, 10+ years of experience highly preferred.

Additional Info:

  • Previous OEM experience highly preferred.
  • Plant experience highly preferred
  • Support in identifying and problem-solving new and emerging issues on the production floor.
  • This Off Shift QE Work from 11pm to 7am with 2 Saturday shifts per month.
