The Supplier Quality Engineer will participate in the Quality activities for identifying and developing the Supply Base for new product development and current production components. Manage and/or conduct the supplier audit process – initial audits, surveillance audits at supplier’s manufacturing facilities as identified by Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing or PPM and supplier corrective action responses (SCAR). Lead the Supplier Development program – Quality System documentation, identify and address gaps, and Supplier training, etc.
Lead the quality improvement effort for the existing supply base:
PPM improvement plans
Supplier Corrective action process
Improvement workshops at supplier manufacturing facilities
Essential Functions:- Assess critical new suppliers in accordance with the Supplier Quality Audit procedure
- Manage and direct Quality Technician(s) assigned to the supplier quality team.
- Assessment of existing suppliers as identified by Purchasing, Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing or dictated by PPM / SCAR performance
- Document and follow up on audit results and required actions to be addressed by the supplier.
- Recommend suitability of suppliers in terms of technology in their field of production (machines & equipment), lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, quality systems (ISO based) when a sourcing decision is being considered.
- Develop and follow improvement action plans for the key strategic suppliers in their business stream who are not performing in line with requirements or in order to reach common benefits.
- Lead Improvement Workshops at suppliers.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process for critical new or changed components per Quality system requirements.
- Create and/or revise Supplier Quality system documentation to support the Supplier Development program.
- Provide training to suppliers for Supplier Development requirements – PPAP, SCAR’s, audits, etc.
- To work on any special assignments related to improving supplier quality or plant quality, as required.
- Perform such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Company and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Flexibility – must be able to adjust work schedule as required to perform essential job duties –North American and Asian suppliers.
- Analysis of suppliers’ quality trend rates to identify and resolve the issues.
- Identifies, develops and recommends Supplier Management policies and procedures.
- This position will require foreign and domestic travel to suppliers. Expect travel time to will be 20% to 35%.
Minimum Qualifications:- A degree in engineering, engineering technology, Quality related area or Procurement field
- Professional accreditation as a quality engineer by an appropriate authority is preferred
- Have 1-3 or more years of experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer or equivalent Procurement / Purchasing field preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with PPAP procedures, statistical techniques, and ISO quality systems preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S Indefinitely.
- Must be available to travel frequently domestically and internationally.
Working Conditions:
The incumbent is located in a Warehouse & Manufacturing environment which is described as follows: May encounter loud noise from various machinery and equipment that may generate loud noise and vibration, varying temperatures (including heat during summer and from the operation of equipment). The incumbent may encounter oil, grease, paint, solvents and other potentially hazardous materials. The incumbent may also encounter dust, fumes, flying debris, and fast-moving machinery, such as forklift trucks when performing duties.
