Support Services Specialist- Hospital Dentistry

The College of Dentistry is looking for a Support Services Specialist to join our Hospital Dentistry team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring smooth clinic operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments using AxiUm and Epic systems.
  • Manage provider calendars and daily clinic schedules.
  • Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations.
  • Collect co-pays and assist with patient billing questions.
  • Coordinate referrals and ensure necessary documentation is available.
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and external offices.
  • Train new staff, residents, and student employees on clinic protocols.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts and urgent care needs.
  • Support clinic workflow and contribute to process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and appointment data.


Salary: $49,968 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 3A)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

May require occasional overtime.

Work Location: On-Site

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
  • Relevant experience in a health care environment, including the following skillsets:
  • Experience scheduling for multiple providers in a healthcare environment
  • Experience gathering and verifying insurance coverage
  • Experience with electronic health records
  • Experience working in Windows based networked database using multiple data tools
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with dental terminology
  • Some knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Experience in a public health setting
  • Experience utilizing active conflict management/resolution skills and de-escalation techniques.
