RESPONSIBILITIES
I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the day-to-day operations and coordination and integration of services, programs, and activities of the Utility Plant of The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC), including water management, hot water/boilers, water softeners, chilled water/cooling towers, medical gas, electrical main distribution/backup electrical generation and other related systems and support.
- Ensures operations and systems are in compliance with regulatory requirements and the policies and procedures of the Medical Center.
- Serves as the manager of the department/unit in the absence of the Manager as assigned.
II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Essential: standing, walking, climbing stairs, seeing, hearing, speaking, walking on uneven ground, squatting, finger dexterity, and repetitive arm/hand motions.
- Occasional: crawling, twisting body, lifting maximum amount of 50 lbs., pushing/pulling usual weight of 25 lbs., pushing/pulling maximum weight of 50 lbs, carrying maximum weight of 50 lbs., static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
- Frequently works near high voltage distribution system.
IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or four (4) years progressively responsible facilities/maintenance experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.
- Current Hawaii State Class A/B & C Underground Storage Tank Operator Certification. If not certified upon hire, certifications must be obtained within one (1) year of entrance into the position.
- Current Hawaii State Water Distribution System Operators Certification, Grade 2 or higher. If not certified upon hire, certification must be obtained within three (3) years of entrance into the position.
B. EXPERIENCE:
- In addition to the educational requirement, three (3) years field experience demonstrating knowledge of facilities and maintenance operations, including work of the different trades, i.e., electrical, carpentry, plumbing, systems, etc.
- One (1) year supervisory/leadership experience.
- Experience to demonstrate:
o Knowledge of building automation systems and their applications to the monitoring of the physical plant.
o Knowledge of water management programs and water disinfection.
o Knowledge or experience with covered source permit regarding emission controls.
