Surface Mining Superintendent

About This Role

To effectively plan, coordinate, and oversee surface mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective achievement of production targets. The role ensures full compliance with statutory requirements, company policies, and Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and coordination for all surface mining activities, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and waste disposal.
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are met in accordance with approved mine plans.
  • Monitor equipment utilization, availability and productivity and collaborate with maintenance teams to reduce downtime.
  • Implement short‑ and medium‑term production schedules while ensuring alignment with the Life‑of‑Mine plan.
  • Ensure full adherence to all corporate control procedures and compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Promote and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide staff with necessary training, knowledge and tools to perform duties safely.
  • Monitor operations to identify and report non‑compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
  • Conduct audits to confirm achievement of safety targets and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • Mine Superintendent's or Mine Captain's Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission (mandatory).
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in open‑pit mining with at least 5 years in a similar supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Mining Regulations and applicable legislation.
  • Proven leadership capability and experience developing high performing teams.
  • Proficiency in mining software applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time‑management abilities.
  • Effective decision‑making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets effectively.
  • Competent in defensive and operational driving.
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural environment and respect other people values and opinions.
