Summary:

This is a 12 month post graduate training program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants who wish to transition into surgical oncology care. The fellowship provides opportunity for new graduate advanced practice providers, as well as those with prior experience as an APP, to develop clinical knowledge and surgical and procedural skills to care for complex surgical oncology patients. The program will provide protected didactic education time and clinical training with exposure to various surgical oncology subspecialties.

  • A personal statement (1–2 pages, double‑spaced, approximately 500–1,000 words) addressing motivation for surgical oncology, reasons for pursuing a fellowship, and long‑term career goals.

The starting annual salary for this position is $91,298 and this can include a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner Educational Path:
1. License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York; and
2. Current New York State Nurse Practitioner certification; and
3. Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA); and
4. Master’s or higher-level degree in Nursing.
NOTE: As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must obtain certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) within nine (9) months of their appointment to this title as required by Medicare.
NOTE: Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.

OR

Physician Assistant Educational Path:
1. License to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of New York; and
2. Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department; and
3. Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or
4. Bachelor’s or higher-level degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department.

NOTE: As a condition of continued employment, incumbents must obtain and maintain the certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) upon appointment to this title.
NOTE: Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
