Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Surgical Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare team. Duties
- Schedule surgeries and procedures accurately within the EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks, ensuring all details are correct and up-to-date
- Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance authorization, and coordinate pre-operative testing with patients and providers
- Review patient medical records and documentation to confirm completeness and compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding appointment details, preparation instructions, and follow-up care using phone etiquette and excellent customer service skills
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to coordinate surgery dates, room assignments, and necessary resources
- Maintain accurate documentation of scheduling activities, cancellations, reschedules, and patient interactions
- Assist with insurance verification processes including Medicare, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, CPT coding, and billing procedures to ensure proper reimbursement
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical scheduling within a clinical or hospital setting; clinic or dental office experience is a plus
- Strong knowledge of EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth or similar platforms
- Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and healthcare documentation review
- Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and health information management software like Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Ability to handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism while maintaining high levels of patient service
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and secure handling of protected health information (PHI)
- Bilingual abilities are preferred to serve diverse patient populations effectively
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in scheduling and documentation management
- Office management or administrative experience in a healthcare environment is highly desirable
