Job Summary

The Sustainability & Environment Manager is responsible for leading, implementing, and monitoring sustainability and environmental strategies across construction and development projects in Saudi Arabia. The role ensures compliance with LEED requirements, Saudi environmental regulations, and project sustainability objectives. The position works closely with design, construction, and client teams to deliver environmentally responsible and energy-efficient projects.

Key Responsibilities Sustainability Strategy & Management

• Develop and implement project sustainability strategies in line with LEED rating systems (LEED BD+C, ID+C, O+M, or ND as applicable)
• Define sustainability goals, targets, and KPIs for projects
• Integrate sustainability requirements into design, construction, and operational phases
• Ensure alignment with client sustainability objectives and ESG commitments

LEED Certification Management

• Lead the LEED certification process from design through construction and handover
• Register projects with USGBC and manage LEED Online submissions
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and subcontractors to achieve targeted LEED credits
• Review drawings, material submittals, and method statements for LEED compliance
• Prepare and submit documentation for LEED reviews and respond to GBCI comments

Environmental Compliance & Regulations

• Ensure compliance with Saudi environmental laws and regulations, including:
• National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC)
• Saudi Environmental Law and Executive Regulations
• Saudi Building Code (SBC – Energy & Sustainability sections)
• SASO and relevant authority requirements
• Monitor environmental permits, approvals, and reporting requirements

Construction Phase Sustainability

• Monitor site implementation of sustainability and environmental measures
• Oversee waste management, recycling, and diversion targets
• Ensure compliance with erosion control, dust control, noise, and pollution prevention plans
• Review and approve environmentally friendly materials and suppliers

Energy, Water & Resources

• Support energy efficiency, renewable energy, and low-carbon initiatives
• Monitor water efficiency strategies and water consumption reduction measures
• Promote use of sustainable materials, recycled content, and local sourcing
• Support life-cycle assessment (LCA) and embodied carbon reduction initiatives

Audits, Reporting & Documentation

• Conduct sustainability and environmental audits on site
• Prepare sustainability progress reports and dashboards for clients and management
• Maintain sustainability records and documentation for handover
• Support green building commissioning and performance verification

Stakeholder Coordination & Training

• Coordinate with clients, consultants, authorities, and certification bodies
• Conduct sustainability awareness and training sessions for project teams
• Support marketing and communication of sustainability achievements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field
• LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or LEED Green Associate (mandatory)
• Additional certifications (Estidama, WELL, ISO 14001) are an advantage

Experience

• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in sustainability and environmental management
• Proven experience delivering LEED-certified projects in the Middle East or Saudi Arabia
• Experience with large-scale developments, commercial, residential, mixed-use, or infrastructure projects
