Job Summary
The Switchgear Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage switchgear systems in compliance with UAE regulations, DEWA/ADDC/SEWA standards, and international safety codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, and commission LV, MV, and HV switchgear panels
- Perform routine inspection, preventive and corrective maintenance
- Conduct functional testing, insulation resistance tests, and relay checks
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in switchgear systems
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and single-line diagrams
- Ensure proper earthing, busbar alignment, and cable terminations
- Coordinate with engineers during testing & commissioning (T&C)
- Follow UAE electrical safety standards and site HSE rules
- Prepare maintenance reports, test records, and job completion documents
- Support shutdowns, breakdown maintenance, and emergency repairs
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma / ITI / Technical Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 2–5 years experience as a Switchgear Technician (UAE/GCC preferred)
- Hands-on experience with ABB, Siemens, Schneider, GE, Eaton or similar systems
- Knowledge of DEWA / ADDC / SEWA / FEWA standards (preferred)
- Familiar with protective relays, breakers, contactors, and control wiring
- Ability to work independently and in teams
- Physically fit for site work
