The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization.
With the creation of our new umbrella organization we now have our own identity with a unique payroll, benefits, performance management system, service recognition programs and other common practices across the system.
Position Summary:
Management oversight including the implementation, standardization, integration, centralization and optimization of the Occupational Safety and Health (OH&S) program across the HHC system. Provides and coordinates risk assessments and acts a technical resource for OH&S programs. Manages the root cause and trends of OSHA statistics and metrics for each HHC entity to ensure proper program focus and development. Investigates and responds to inquiries, complaints, and citations from OSHA and the CT
State Workers’ Compensation Commission. Presents information to HHC and entity specific ELT’s to benchmark and track work related injuries and claim experience. Provides direct support as required for HHC affiliates and acts as a representative on EOC/Safety Committees as an OH&S expert. Will manage general OH&S matters and assists in the development and implementation of OH&S training courses. Manages the delivery of ergonomic assessments and recommends work station improvements and upgrades. Acts as the Transportation Coordinator for the System Support Office and consults on DOT issues. Develops and writes policies and procedures. Provides back up support as needed for workers’ compensation administration. Performs other duties as assigned by System Director of EOC and Regulatory Compliance.
Position Responsibilities:
Key areas of responsibility
1. Manages Occupational Health &Safety (OH&S) risk assessments, policies and protocols, key performance indicators for all HHC entities.
2. Conducts OH&S risk assessments and recommends respecting corrective actions for HHC entities as related to but not limited to Indoor air quality, personal protection equipment, noise, heat and cold stress, confined space, etc.
3. Manages HHC OSHA metrics and denotes trends in order to reduce risk and liability for HHC as related to Occupational safety and Health Administrative (OSHA) programs such as slips trips and falls, material handling and workplace violence.
4. Acts as a consultant and resource to all Hartford Healthcare affiliates in matters related to occupational safety and health incidents and accidents including transportation matters.
5. Manages training to departmental staff, Safety Coordinators, EOC/Safety Committee members and manages the Grainger LMS system in order to ensure that appropriate OH&S policies are established and training requirements are met.
6. Responsible for OSHA and Joint Commission regulatory requirements related to OH&S job hazard assessments.
7. Works effectively as a leader with all departments to provide quality EH&S support through communication, cooperation and collaboration.
8. Manages the function and compliance of all the HHC Colleague Safety Committees.
9. Manages the entire HHC Office Ergonomics program.
10. Manages the HHC response to OSHA investigations, complaints, hospitalizations and onsite visits.

Education
Experience
o At least 5-7 years of experience in occupational safety and health.
o Strong LOTO, Respiratory Protection, formaldehyde, hearing conservation, ladders, blood born pathogen OSHA standards.
o Strong Presentation and training skills
Licensure, Certification, Registration
o CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
o ALCM (Associate in Loss Control Management)
