THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Park District is currently recruiting for System Administrator located at EBRPD Administrative Office, 2950 Peralta Oaks Ct., Oakland. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Reporting to the Information Services Systems Manager, this classification is responsible for a variety of complex assignments, projects, and ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the District’s information systems and infrastructure including but not limited to Active Directory/Microsoft, LANs, WANs, AZURE cloud services, file application servers, mobile device management, and VOIP. This classification is distinguished from the higher-level class of Information Services Systems Manager in that the latter is responsible for supervising staff, managing complex projects, and leading system and infrastructure implementation and integration efforts, whereas the former is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of those systems.

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in management information systems, computer science, or a related field;
AND
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience supporting and implementing information technology infrastructure and/or server administration.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.

Knowledge of:
Principles of computer operating systems, enterprise infrastructure, and peripheral components;
Principles and practices of designing, installing, and maintaining virtualization technologies;
Technologies employed by the District’s information systems;
Principles and practices of configuring and using system monitoring tools;
Principles and practices of configuring and implementing system backup solutions;
Principles, practices, procedures, and techniques involved in installation, configuration, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of server infrastructure and network environments; techniques and methods of system evaluation, implementation, and documentation;
Troubleshooting, configuration, and installation techniques; procedures for creating and modifying systems security;
Principles and practices of desktop computer and server troubleshooting;
Network file management; office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Ability to:
Monitor system and server utilization and recommend appropriate revisions to processes, procedures, and operations;
Perform routine to complex functions in the installation, implementation, testing, and maintenance of a variety of support servers, storage systems, and other components; perform basic analyses of informational requirements and needs, identify problems, provide technical advice and consultation, and ensure efficient computer system utilization;
Work independently while understanding and applying District and departmental policies and procedures;
Stay technically abreast of industry trends and technologies;
Perform deductive and inductive reasoning;
Secure and administer email communication systems;
Apply best practices for security of District systems and applications; think clearly and act quickly; apply logic and common sense to problem solving;
Follow oral and written instruction;
Lift, move and carry equipment up to 50 pounds;
Bend, stoop and crawl in confined spaces;
Walk and drive;
Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications;
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT-
Must pass a level 2 Background Check.

This position is required to respond and assist in the event of a system outage as directed; may be required to work weekends or evenings.

UNION AFFILIATION:
AFSCME: East Bay Regional Parks Employees, Local 2428, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, represents this classification. Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.
Internal Promotions: Placement shall be made at the first step in the salary range for the new position (Step A) unless the salary rate at Step A of the new position is less than a 5% increase. In such instances, the employee will be placed at a step in the new salary range that ensures at least a 5% increase.
