Systems Administrator

Definition:

Under the general supervision of the IT Manager, the Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining existing library technology as well as assisting in implementing new technology. The Systems Administrator also helps staff and customers in the proper use of library technology. The work requires the Systems Administrator to maintain essential IT operations across all library locations, while pursuing faster and smarter technology solutions for our staff and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities are assigned by the IT Manager and may vary depending on departmental staffing levels and the skills/experience of the employee. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide Microsoft 365 support (i.e., Admin Center, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Participate in the development and accomplishment of annual team goals, objectives and their action plans related to existing, forthcoming, and potential technology related projects and initiatives aligned with the strategic goals of the library
  • Document and complete assigned projects and tasks within the parameters and timeframe provided by the IT Manager
  • Administer MDM solution
  • Administer Google Workspace
  • Install, configure, and maintain approved library technology hardware and software
  • Solve, or assist in solving, technology related issues via internal staff trouble ticket system
  • Maintain software and hardware inventory
  • Assist IT Manager in the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of physical/virtual servers and networks
  • Assist IT Manager in the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS solutions
  • Assist ILS Librarian in the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of audio/visual equipment for programs and library functions
  • Create and update documentation related to the usage, configuration, and/or maintenance of library technology hardware and software
  • Provide instruction to staff on how to operate library hardware or software
  • Provide technology assistance in advance or during library programs and events
  • Research and assess new technology solutions that benefit library operations and services
  • Serve as team representative on assigned library committees, teams, or projects
  • Participate in the promotion of technology related resources available to library customers
  • Pursue professional development opportunities (with approval of the IT Manager) through participation in user groups, training conferences, and certifications related to your job description

Qualifications:

  • CompTIA A+ certification or equivalent would be required in the first 12 months of employment
  • Windows Server Hybrid Admin Associate (AZ-800/AZ-801) certification or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in a technology related field
  • College Degree in IT-related field OR 4-year proven track record in the IT field with progressively more complex responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, and networking fundamentals.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, and similar movements when the occasion requires
  • Moving 50-100 lb. dolly and handling moderately heavy equipment when the occasion requires
  • Ability to work in a stationary position for long periods of time (4-8 hours)
  • Ability to view computer screens for extended lengths of time (4-8 hours)
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information with coworkers and customers

Other Information:

  • Full time employment at the Jessamine County Public Library is 38.5 hours per week. Exempt employees are expected to work the hours needed to fulfill the requirements of their position and are not entitled to overtime pay.
  • All employment at the Jessamine County Public Library is considered “employment at will.”
  • Hours of work are dependent upon the public service hours of the department. Employees are required to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • Employees must adhere to library policies and procedures as described in the Employee Handbook.
  • All employees are expected to comply with the JCPL Confidentiality Policy.
  • New employees must pass 30-, 60-, and 90-day evaluations. All employees must pass annual performance appraisals.
  • All employees are required to participate in Direct Deposit for payroll.

  • Vacation leave Years 1-5: 15 days per year. See manual for increases and limits.
  • Sick leave 7.7 hours accrue per month; maximum accumulation is 1000 hours.

Pay: $54,054.00 - $60,040.00 per year
