System Administrator
About the Role
We are seeking a System Administrator to operate, maintain, and support our core IT infrastructure. This role is focused on reliability, stability, security, and operational support of production and non‑production systems.
You will be responsible for day‑to‑day systems administration across Windows and Linux environments, supporting virtualised infrastructure, managing access and permissions, and responding to incidents as part of an on‑call rotation. This is a hands‑on operational role, working closely with DevOps, Security, and IT Operations teams to keep systems running effectively and securely.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Administration
Administer, maintain, and support Windows and Linux servers across multiple environments.
Perform system provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning.
Monitor system health, performance, storage, and capacity.
Troubleshoot OS‑level and service‑level issues and implement permanent fixes.
Virtualisation & Infrastructure
Support and manage virtualised environments (e.g. VMware, Nutanix).
Assist with VM lifecycle management, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Work with infrastructure and network teams on hardware and platform‑related issues.
Identity, Access & Security
Manage user accounts, groups, and permissions across directory and identity systems.
Apply security hardening and baseline configurations to servers.
Support patch compliance, vulnerability remediation, and security audits.
Assist with incident investigation and remediation from a systems perspective.
Monitoring, Backup & Reliability
Maintain and respond to alerts from monitoring and logging tools.
Ensure backup jobs are running successfully and assist with restore testing.
Support disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
Identify recurring issues and propose operational improvements.
Incident Response & Support
Participate in a shared on‑call rotation for production support.
Respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues, and perform root‑cause analysis.
Document incidents, fixes, and standard operating procedures.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
Identify opportunities to simplify operations, improve reliability, and reduce manual effort.
Contribute to process improvements across IT Operations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of experience administering Linux systems.
3+ years of experience administering Windows Server environments.
Strong experience with virtualised infrastructure (VMware, Nutanix, or similar).
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VLAN, and load balancing in on‑premises environments.
Familiarity with security best practices and SOC workflows, including alert handling, log review, and incident escalation.?
Solid troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.
Experience working in production environments with on‑call responsibilities.
Scripting experience (Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar).
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Backup and disaster recovery tooling experience.
Experience supporting hybrid environments (on‑premises and cloud – AWS or Azure).
Familiarity with monitoring and logging platforms (Splunk, Datadog, Zabbix, Nagios, etc.)
