Systems Administrator - Senior

Job Summary:

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and secure operation of computer systems, networks, hardware, and software supporting mission and program requirements. This role provides advanced technical expertise in systems administration, ensuring system availability, performance, security, and reliability. The Senior Systems Administrator performs system monitoring, troubleshooting, backup and recovery operations, and security management while supporting hardware, operating systems, and Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software. The position also ensures compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity and information assurance requirements..

Essential Duties:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support computer systems, hardware, operating systems, and COTS software.
  • Perform system backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and system continuity.
  • Monitor and maintain system performance, including sizing, tuning, and optimization of system resources.
  • Manage system security controls and ensure compliance with DoD information assurance policies and standards.
  • Administer network and system resources, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues affecting system performance and availability.
  • Perform system upgrades, patches, and basic software management activities.
  • Support hardware, software, and network design, troubleshooting, and resource allocation.
  • Maintain system documentation, configuration management, and operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure systems are operating effectively and securely.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Relevant technical certifications and equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:

  • Experience with Naval Surface Warfare Center / DoD Test and Evaluation support preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on technical experience in systems administration and related technical functions.
  • Experience with system backup and recovery, basic software management, security management, network management, and operating computer systems.
  • Experience with system sizing, performance tuning, installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, operating systems, and COTS software.
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware, software, and network design, troubleshooting, and resource allocation.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of computer system administration, operating systems, and network management.
  • Strong technical expertise in hardware and software installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of system performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining system security controls in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across hardware, software, and network environments.
  • Ability to manage system backups, disaster recovery processes, and data integrity procedures.
  • Familiarity with COTS software installation and support.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and coordination skills.

Required Certifications:

  • Must meet Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8140 requirements (or superseding guidance).
  • Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level 2 or higher under Specialty Area 45 – System Administrator.
  • Certification in current Operating Systems and Information Security.
  • IT-1 level designation in the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS).

Salary: The projected salary range for this position is $110,000-175,000 and is based on experience and contractual requirements. However, this is not a guarantee of salary.
