Eckerd College is currently seeking candidates for the position of Systems and Metadata Librarian | Visiting Assistant Professor to join our Library team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community.
The Systems and Metadata Librarian provides leadership for the technical services department, is responsible for the management, configuration, and maintenance of the library’s integrated library system (Alma/Primo, OCLC), leads ongoing metadata projects, and provides research assistance, liaison support for one of the college’s academic divisions, and delivers library instruction as needed. The incumbent must possess previous experience working with integrated library systems (preferably Ex Libris Alma/Primo) as well as strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
This is a full-time visiting position including benefits with a start date of July 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the library’s technical services department; supervising, training, and evaluating
the acquisitions coordinator and the technical services assistant.
Develop and maintain documentation for library systems to include policies and procedures related to technical services, acquisitions, and cataloging.
Complete original cataloging for senior theses and other items as necessary.
Work collaboratively with Electronic Resources Librarian on metadata cleanup projects, bulk collection updates, discovery issues, and other data sync projects.
Manage and support the operation of the library’s Integrated Library System (ILS), Ex Libris Alma, including oversight of statistical data collection, troubleshooting problems relating to records, access, and functionality related to the Integrated Library System (ILS) and OCLC.
Manage and support the college’s institutional repository (ExLibris Esploro) in collaboration with the library’s Esploro Team and other campus stakeholders.
Serve as library liaison and an active member of a collegium (set of disciplines in academic fields).
Serve on the library’s collections team.
Provide research assistance in person, via chat, email, and phone.
Create and maintain online research guides with Springshare’s LibGuides program in support of corresponding learning outcomes in liaison disciplines.
Participate in planning and delivery of library related workshops as necessary.
Education and Experience:
MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution required.
Minimum of 1-3 years professional experience in an academic library.
Previous experience working with integrated library systems (preferably Ex Libris Alma/Primo) is required.
Prior experience in a supervisory role preferred.
